Spider Plant care

Chlorophytum Comosum

Spider Plant — Chlorophytum Comosum houseplant

Arching striped leaves and little baby plantlets on long stems. The spider plant is pet-safe, fast-growing, and almost embarrassingly easy to multiply.

Light

Bright to medium indirect light. It'll tolerate lower light but grows slower and loses its variegation.

Avoid direct midday sun — the leaf tips brown from it.

Water

Water when the top inch dries. Spider plants are forgiving but dislike soggy soil and fluoride in tap water (which browns the tips).

Leave tap water out overnight before watering, or use filtered water.

Soil & pot

Any well-draining potting mix. They like to be slightly rootbound to produce those baby plantlets.

Humidity & temperature

Average home humidity is fine. Keep it 65–80°F.

Propagation

Snip off the baby plantlets and root them in water or soil. That's it — they take fast.
